Legacies Project- Don Gilbert

This summer, we’ve partnered with University of Virginia’s radio station, WTJU in celebrating their bicentennial. The university stands as a reminder of Thomas Jefferson’s legacy, and made us think about our residents and their legacies, the stories they will leave behind.

At 88, Mr. Don Gilbert is our resident gardener at Commonwealth Senior Living at Farnham. You’ll see him out there picking vegetables and tending to his crops every day. He says it keeps him young.

Listen to a bit of his story here:

Don is not the only resident at our community who enjoys the garden. His produce is used in our kitchen to create delicious meals for the residents every day. It ties in perfectly to our Farm to Table dining program. With 85% of our produce coming from Virginia farmers, we’re proud to enjoy local food at Farnham and all of our communities every day.

Want to come take a look at Don’s garden and stay for lunch? Contact Jill White (jwhite@commonwealthsl.com) and she’ll be happy to have you!
