Fathers Day Prayer

Fathers Day Prayer

In honor of Father's Day this Sunday, we are honored to have one of our own residents, the amazing Pastor Purkett say a special prayer for our fathers. Elder Taft Purkett was the eldest son of 10. He served in the US Army for several years as a medic and worked at the Naval Base before deciding to go into full time ministry. He led the congregation in the building of a new edifice at Macedonia COGIC as well as the Refreshing Center COGIC in North Carolina for more than 40 years. His ministry was based on prayer and his famous motto was "Much prayer, much power; Little prayer, little power; No prayer, no power!" He enjoyed 61 years with his bride Dorothy, and together they had three sons, two daughter-in-laws, three grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. His son, Joseph, shared "the world would be a better place if we would continue to love one another like Taft our father. Many could testify about this humble man for what he has been to them. We are not perfect, but let's try with the help of God."

Pastor Purkett has been a deeply loved resident in our Churchland House community since August 2006 and is an inspirational, gentle man with the power to make everyone want to be the best person they can be. We chose Pastor Purkett to deliver our Father's Day prayer this year because of his dedication to his family, faith, and community. His blessing will provide positive guidance to fathers during this difficult time.

This Sunday, we will be having our Father's Day Drive event in front of our community complete with decorations, signs for our fathers from our Home Health partners, music, and each family being able to visit from their cars at a social distance.

Pastor Purkett's prayer is below and we are so excited to share it with fathers everywhere on their special day!

"Our most gracious and eternal Father, You have shown Your power and caring by healing people of all ages and stations of life from physical, mental, and spiritual ailments. Be present now to people who need Your loving touch because of COVID-19. May they feel Your power of healing through the care of doctors and nurses. We're asking that you relieve the anxiety and stress of those that haven't been able to see their loved ones. You said through Your words to caste all our cares upon You. We have seen through the hands of time how the sun rises during the day and the moon during the night because You care for us. Let us pray for leaders responsible for making decisions about the new coronavirus. We pray that they communicate clearly, truthfully, and calmly - with each other and with the public - and that their messages are received and heeded. God, You have delivered us in the past and we know that You are going to do it again. We are so careful to give You Your honor and praise, Amen."
