Life at Commonwealth Senior Living at Hillsville

Commonwealth Senior Living at Hillsville is serenely nestled in a scenic rural setting where our residents can have peace of mind that goes along with dignified, respectful help with daily activities like getting dressed, safely taking medications, or enjoying a delicious meal. Each day, our community enjoys a variety of award-winning programs, exceptional dining, and gracious amenities. There is always something to do at this vibrant community and people to share those experiences with. Today we would like to take you through a few examples of our residents' favorite parts of the day.

During the week, we typically start our days off with morning Bingo following our strength, balance, or flexibility exercises. We then enjoy an activity like eating popcorn while playing pop trivia or trying fun new recipes from our Dining Services Director like "Backyard Bug Snacks." We enjoy regular happy hours, engaging programming coordinating with our monthly Travel the World theme, and marvel over watching our farm-to-table greens grow in our Babylon Micro Farm. However, we enjoy being able to harvest those vegetables to make salad appetizers for our community even more! No matter the topic, our residents always have a say in making their experiences meaningful, meeting for their Resident Council and Food Council each month. See what else is coming up this month here

Our weekends are just as exciting as our weekdays in our community. We love taking shopping trips to Big Lots, going on Sunday strolls around the community, visiting ice cream trucks, singing along to our favorite gospel songs, or getting a bite to eat at our local Pizza Hut. The possibilities are endless.

In addition to these local activities, Hillsville Health and Rehabilitation Center, Carilion Clinic Outpatient Therapy, and Twin County Regional Healthcare are also in the area for any assistance our residents need outside our community.

Solely between our department heads, we have over 30 years of experience, and two of our frontline associates have worked at our community for over 20 years. Kayla Crowder, Executive Director, has won Best Assisted Living and Best Alzheimer's Care in the Gemini Awards for four years in a row (2018-2022). In 2017, we were named Community of the Year, Kayla was named Executive Director of the Year, and Kristin short, Dining Services Director, was named Dining Services Director of the Year in both 2017 and 2021! In 2018, Raven Lineberry, Program Director, received the Programming Rising Star Award. In 2020, Lauren Self received the Rising Star Award. In 2021, Robyn Jones, Resident Care Director, was named Resident Care Director of the Year, Sheila Ryan, received the Service Before Self Award, and Avery Dalton, Sales Director, became part of our President's Club. Because of our amazing leaders and associates, our community as a whole has also been recognized nationally by U.S. News & World Report and by Carroll News, our local newspaper. These awards are voted on by our local community, which make them that much more meaningful to us, knowing we've made a difference in the lives of our seniors and their families.
