Veterans Aid & Attendance: How We Can Help

By: Commonwealth Senior Living / 07 Jul 2023

At Commonwealth Senior Living, we created Our Promise to Veterans to provide exclusive benefits to veterans and their spouses. One of these benefits is a rate lock for two years, ensuring that the rate on a veterans suite remains the same during this period. We take pride in recognizing and honoring our veterans service, and this commitment is ingrained in all our communities. It is our utmost priority to show the respect and gratitude our veterans deserve.

Veterans Aid & Attendance

This benefit is available to veterans who received an honorable discharge and served at least 90 days of active duty with at least one day during a recognized period of war. Its purpose is to provide financial assistance to the veteran or their spouse to offset expenses associated with medical expenses, such as needing help with activities of daily living like dressing, eating, or bathing. To continue our commitment to serving veterans and their families, we partnered with Hook Law Center, who has over 80 years of experience as a pioneer of Elder Law. Our commitment to our veterans is personal for us, as well as Hook Law Center. Everyone working at their practice has a connection to the military, whether they served themselves, or have a family member that served. By utilizing their legal services, you are able to minimize the liability you might encounter going through the process alone, and also have the ability to create more comprehensive strategies like financial planning.

The process of enrolling typically begins with an application, but there are many more pieces of the puzzle such as complex regulations, legal principles, and tax principles. There are several resources that provide tips for going through the process yourself, however, some of the planning associated with this benefit should involve the assistance of a legal professional. An elder law attorney can assist you in developing a plan that is right for you and your family and continue to work with you throughout your journey.

Maximum Monthly Pension Rates for Aid & Attendance

  • Single Veteran: $2,229
  • Married Veteran: $2,642
