Flu and COVID-19 Prevention Efforts

Company Update: May 19, 2023, 3:00PM

Dear Residents, Families, and Associates:

During the past few weeks, we have had a few new cases of COVID-19 at a few of our communities. In these cases, community specific letters have been distributed with the applicable information. Currently none of our communities have any restrictive phasing in place.

As you are probably aware, effective May 11, 2023, the Health and Human Services Secretary of the United States determined that the nationwide public health emergency (PHE) related to COVID 19 was over. As a result of this, there is no longer a regular update of COVID transmission status by county, nor a requirement for us to use that information to adjust masking requirements in our communities. This will hopefully be our last companywide communication related to COVID. We will continue to communicate with each community as appropriate.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, we have been focused on following national, state, and local guidelines, while also trying to balance safety/infection control along with the impact of isolation on our residents. We continue to ask that all residents, families, and associates increase their diligence at following the best practice protocols to prevent the spread of COVID and other illnesses. Practice good hand hygiene, wear masks at all times in the community, and don’t enter the community, or interact with others if you don’t feel well.

  • Masks will no longer be required unless the CSL community is in active Phase Red (with multiple cases of positive residents).
  • Individuals who have been exposed to COVID-19 by close contact, but do not have symptoms, are requested to mask when in the community for a period of 10 days.
  • We also encourage anyone who desires to continue to wear a mask to do so, and will have masks available.

We continue to encourage all associates, residents and/or families to receive get and stay “Up to Date”, and work with our community teams to determine the best way to access the COVID-19 vaccine and boosters. While we will continue to follow all our infection control protocols, we do anticipate the likelihood of having some additional cases of COVID-19 that will occur.

If you have specific questions, please reach out to your individual community Executive Director and/or leadership teams. If you have additional questions, we have a toll free CSL hotline. Messages left on this line will be responded to the next business day by an appropriate member of our home office or regional support team. That number is (866) 504-1053.

Sincerely,

Earl Parker President & CEO

Company Update: May 5, 2023, 3:00PM

Dear Residents, Families, and Associates:

Happy Cinco de Mayo! During the past few weeks we have had several new cases of COVID-19 at a few of our communities. In these cases, community specific letters have been distributed with the applicable information. Our company COVID leadership team has been carefully reviewing the trends in both positive cases and the impacts on our residents and associates.

  • We will no longer be screening residents, visitors, or associates when they enter the community. We will remind everyone that no one should enter the community if you are having symptoms of COVID or any other communicable disease.
  • Masks will no longer be required unless the CSL community is in active Phase Red (with multiple cases of positive residents) or the county that the CSL community is in has been designated by the CDC as having a High COVID-19 Community Level. (CSL will provide weekly updates as to any communities affected by this.)
  •  Individuals who have been exposed to COVID-19 by close contact, but do not have symptoms, are requested to mask when in the community for a period of 10 days.
  •  We also encourage anyone who desires to continue to wear a mask to do so, and will have masks available.

Moving forward, Red Phase will only be implemented as directed by the Department of Health or other agency, or by the CSL COVID Response Team. We certainly hope that we can avoid and/or limit the Red Phase situations as much as possible. Red Phase does allow for scheduled visitation, in designated areas, for all residents who are not actively quarantining, either for a positive COVID diagnosis or for exposure.

The new Phase/Community Level schedule for communities is below. Please understand that this is the current projection and subject to change.

For the Week of May 5, 2023, all CSL communities are scheduled to be in Phase Green and non-High Community COVID.

If you have specific questions, please reach out to your individual community Executive Director and/or leadership teams. If you have additional questions, we have a toll free CSL hotline. Company Update: March 10, 2023 3:00PM

Dear Residents, Families, and Associates:

This week marks three years that we have been dealing with COVID-19. March 13, 2020 is when I wrote my first resident, family, associate letter, announcing our need to close down much of our community activities in an effort to keep our residents and associates safe. It has certainly been a journey, and one that I am glad to say continues to minimize its impact. During the past few weeks we have had several new cases of COVID-19 at a few of our communities. Company Update: November 18, 2022 11:00AM

Dear Residents, Families, and Associates,

During the past week we have had several new cases of COVID-19 at a few of our communities. In these cases, community specific letters have been distributed with the applicable information. Our company COVID leadership team has been carefully reviewing the trends in both positive cases and the impacts on our residents and associates.

As we are going into the week of Thanksgiving, I wanted to share my personal thanks with each of you for your continued support and trust in us an organization. We take our responsibilities very seriously, and we appreciate your ongoing support.

Based on updated CDC guidance, (updates were made referencing the availability of highly effective vaccines and boosters, effective treatment options, immunity in our population, and decrease in severity of illness) and information we have received from specific state and local agencies, we have made substantial changes to our COVID-19 Policies and Procedures, that became effective Monday, October 17th.

(CSL will provide weekly updates as to any communities affected by this. As of 11/18/2022 there are no CSL communities affected by this.

Company Update – October 7, 2022 4:30PM

Dear Residents, Families, and Associates,

During the past two weeks we have had several new cases of COVID-19 at a few of our communities. In these cases, community specific letters have been distributed with the applicable information. Based on today’s information, we have one community in partial Red Phase and two of our communities in Yellow Phase next week. Our company COVID leadership team has been carefully reviewing the trends in both positive cases and the impacts on our residents and associates.

Based on updated CDC guidance, and information we are beginning to receive from specific state and local agencies, we anticipate significant changes to our overall COVID Response Plan next week. We intend to issue a communication to all Residents, Families, and Associates next Friday, October 14th, outlining these changes.

Our current phased reopening plan is a three-phase plan, Green, Yellow, and Red and it was updated recently. Green Phase will be for all communities that have not had three or more resident or associate cases of COVID-19 in the past 10 days, Yellow Phase will be for communities that have had three or more cases of positive associates and/or residents within ten days.

The new schedule for communities “Re-Opening” is below. Please understand that this is the current projection, and it was developed based on several factors, including assumptions of pending tests. Changes in those assumptions and/or local/state guidance could impact/change these dates. Federal, State, and Local Health Department guidance will always supersede our internal planning document.

For the Week of October 10th, 2022, all CSL communities are scheduled to be in Phase Green
except the following:

  • CSL at West End: Red Phase for Memory Care
  • CSL at Stafford: Yellow Phase for Memory Care
  • CSL at Cedar Bluff: Yellow Phase

Company Update – September 23rd 3:00PM

Dear Residents, Families, and Associates:

During the past two weeks we have had several new cases of COVID-19 at several of our communities. In these cases, community specific letters have been distributed with the applicable information. Based on today’s information, two of our communities will be in Yellow Phase next week and two communities in Red Phase. Our company COVID leadership team has been carefully reviewing the trends in both positive cases and the impacts on our residents and associates. As a reminder, we will be providing updates on a bi-weekly basis, as opposed to weekly, moving forward. The next companywide letter will be on Friday, October 7, 2022. Individual communities will continue to provide local updates if there are any cases of COVID-19 and/or if there are any changes in community Phasing.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, we have been focused on following national, state, and local guidelines, while also trying to balance safety/infection control along with the impact of isolation on our residents. Practice good hand hygiene, wear masks at all times in the community, and don’t enter the community, or interact with others if you don’t feel well. There have been some questions come up about the updated CDC general public guidance as well as indoor masking. CDC’s updated guidance has been relative to general settings, not healthcare related settings, so our prior protocols remain in place.

Based on updated CDC guidance around quarantine, as well as the experience at our CSL communities over the last several months, CSL has made the decision to rescind our requirement for mandatory vaccination of all associates. We will continue to strongly encourage all associates to get vaccinated and to stay up to date on boosters, and we are likely to impose additional requirements related to testing and use of PPE for unvaccinated associates, but at this time we do not believe that it remains necessary to have mandated vaccination. We certainly also hope that any residents and/or families who have been uncertain, and chose not to receive the vaccine initially, will reconsider and work with our community teams to determine the best way to access the COVID-19 vaccine and boosters.

While we will continue to follow all our infection control protocols, we do anticipate the likelihood of having some additional cases of COVID-19 that will occur. We continue to require all nonvaccinated associates, private duty aides, etc. to undergo weekly COVID-19 testing.
