Our goal is to provide quality care to our elderly population in a non-institutional, home-like atmosphere. We provide these services with the dignity, respect and compassion our residents expect and deserve.
On January 18, 2002, our Founder and CEO, Richard J. Brewer, celebrated both the birth of his daughter, and the birth of a new company – Commonwealth Senior Living.
Beginning with just three communities that year, the organization has grown in both size and scope. We have changed our name to Commonwealth Senior Living to reflect all of our living options: independent apartments, assisted living and memory care. We proudly own and operate 32 communities across the Southeast. As a result of our dedication, quality and commitment to seniors and their families, Commonwealth Senior Living has become Virginia’s premier provider of independent living, assisted living and memory care.
Mr. Brewer has been in the senior housing industry for almost 20 years. He has been intimately involved in the company’s growth and development.
With our Home Office located in Charlottesville, Virginia, our leadership team is within a four-hour driving radius of every one of our senior living communities. Our entire team is dedicated to providing high-quality housing, personal care and comprehensive services that are responsive to the needs and preferences of residents and their families. Since acquiring our first community, we have grown to become one of the largest providers of independent living, assisted living and memory care services in the state of Virginia with a combined capacity of over 1,900 residents. All of our communities offer our specialized Alzheimer’s/dementia program, Sweet Memories™. Our purpose is to provide optimum resident care with the most efficient operation possible. We have implemented many successful programs that have resulted in enhanced resident care and consistent compliance with regulatory standards.
Our communities proudly display Commonwealth’s Core Values Statement, outlining the key elements and actions that will attribute to resident satisfaction and the success of our communities as well as our organization as a whole. They read: “We CARE about people. We DO the right thing. We are passionate, have fun, and CELEBRATE success. We SPEAK UP! It’s our responsibility. We take OWNERSHIP and ADD value in all we do. We are RESPECTFUL.” At Commonwealth Senior Living, we care about our residents and their families in the same way we care about each other.
“Our people set us apart from other providers,” Mr. Brewer says. “We work hard, and are not afraid to do things differently. We believe in our product and are proud of the important role we play in society to help our elders age with dignity.”
Commonwealth Senior Living is currently an active member of the Virginia Assisted Living Association (VALA), Assisted Living Federation of America (ALFA), American Seniors Housing Association (ASHA) and the National Investment Center for Seniors Housing (NIC). We encourage our team to be leaders in supporting our industry and have several current and past board members and ALFA Executive Roundtable participants.
