If you’re considering senior living for a loved one, you may be wondering who is going to take care of them. We want you to know that your loved one is in good hands with us, so we asked our associates to explain why they love their jobs. One of our Program Directors said this:
“My grandmother had Vascular Dementia, and seeing what she and my family had to go through just to find someone who had a passion for what they did in terms of good personal and professional care inspired me. Recognizing this gap made me want to dedicate my life to giving my all to anyone in need of my professional care and love.
I became a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) when I was 17 and worked only with people who had Alzheimer’s and Dementia. For seven years I worked at The Memory Center of Virginia Beach. After that, I decided to start looking to see what else I could do to make a difference in the lives of the elderly.
I accepted a job at Commonwealth Senior Living at Leigh Hall and began acting as an Activity Assistant. Immediately I felt that ‘this‘ is what I have been missing my entire career. The Executive Director-in-Training saw the passion in my eyes from day one. She began to train and teach me everything she knew. Finally, I was doing the important and fun part of senior living!
Six months later I got the opportunity to transfer to Commonwealth Senior Living at King’s Grant House to work as the Program Director. Coming to King’s Grant was the best decision I have ever made in my career. I was able to achieve this milestone with the support of my fellow associates, who I am also lucky to call a family.”
