Commonwealth Senior Living at Stafford

Overall an Excellent facility. *Background* My relative has been a resident for quite some time now in the Assisted Living portion, not the upper Memory Loss section of the facility. In the span of their residence, Greenfield was bought by Commonwealth (CSL) in 2019 I believe that was the year; out of Charlottesville, VA, of which is a publicly traded Canadian Co. Commonwealth (CSL) came in and made major renovation changes to the facility and rooms, all for the betterment of the facility. 2019 Resident Bathrooms were renovated to low profile walk in showers, new carpeting installed in hallways, new flooring in the Dining room, furniture/couch was changed out in the TV room. Lower staff member support/performance of duties is excellent. I visit at ALL hours of the day/night dropping off supplies, clean clothes etc as I do those things personally. Because of this, I am also able to see staff support/performance behind the normal course of business hours. I have only seen respect, and dignity shown towards the resident.The day to day support staff should be commended for their daily interaction, care for the residents, and varied medical and emotional conditions of the residents. *Would be nice to see an Assistant Executive Director position added, someone to help with the work load of Executive Director (ED) and add visibility. Executive Director (ED) position seems to change hands rather frequently. Position seems to be the one position at this location that needs a little work. I think since we have been at this location including Greenfield there has been a change of the ED position at least every 1-1/2 yrs. The existing Executive Director Margie has been in place for quite some time now, and she has done an excellent job in addressing the multitude of issues thrown at her. I believe she will be leaving soon, but she has done an Excellent job in taking care of day to day operations. Honestly, I'm not sure if CSL either doesn't pay well enough for the responsibilities of the position, if they expect too much, I don't know? But I would like to see ED in the position for longer periods of time, with an added visible Assistant ED position, which would adds to the stability of day to day operations, assist the ED's work load and add to the commitment of it being a home Executive Directors need support, $ resources etc to run these communities to the highest standards. *Renovations last happened in 2019, it could use a refresh in certain areas. New Couch in the TV room, change of hallway carpeting; just my opinion. Comparing it to other CSL locations. For example Richmond VA by the Aquatic Center is a much more modern facility. *Lighting of the parking lot. I come and go at all hours of the day/night. They had upgraded some of the lighting poles in the parking lot from the short rod iron post (5ft tall) to tall poles with attached LED lights that brightly light up parts of the parking lot. ALL of the short light poles need to replicated to the taller poles with LED lighting attached. Not only for the workers safety at night, visitors at night, but also to "wart" off criminal activity. Parts of the parking lot are pitch black at night. *Signage lighting on Rt 1. Advertising/lighting of both signs. A lot of people in the Stafford area are not even aware that CSL exist off of Rt 1. They have a sign on Rt 1 at the bottom of the hill lite up, but the sign does not have flood spot lights. Could easily convert 2 bulbs connections with arms and attach flood spot lights to highlight the community sign. Sign further South on right hand side of hill is obstructed a little by ground growth, cannot be see at night. Running an electrical line to it and putting a flood spot light on it would also give free advertising. Another option is using the hill that looks down from the building and using that with some form of advertising to draw attention and lighting it up. There's also a billboard further down Route 1 heading towards Quantico, that could draw attention.

My mom has been there for a year, in memory care. It’s been a transitional time for me and my mom. The care providers have beautiful hearts and it shows with the care provided. Whenever questions come up, the director, Margie S, has responded quickly and followed up. I can only say, I am thankful that I chose Commonwealth Senior Living of Stafford to care for my mom, when her needs exceeded my ability to care for her myself.

This facility is very clean and the staff is absolutely amazing! It’s nice to see the residents outside getting fresh air and inside moving about, reading and chatting.

The community is clean and bright. The staff has been friendly when I visit and helpful. Paige has been a blessing as I get my mom into the facility. Rachel came to our home to perform the screening on my mom which made it so convenient.
